Consulting since 2004, Dr. B. S. Thakur has rich experience and expertise in treating & managing diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. His clinical skills include but are not limited to management of upper and lower GI bleeding, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, acute pancreatitis, acute and chronic liver failure, upper and lower GI cancers, functional bowel/acid peptic disorders, hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies, chronic diarrhoeal illnesses, etc.

Dr. Bhagwan S Thakur is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based in Indore, where he practises at the Cosmos Gastro Care and Path Lab. He has a postgraduate MD in Internal Medicine and a post-doctoral DM in Gastroenterology as his specialist qualifications. Besides, he also completed a fellowship in endoscopic ultrasound techniques from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. His areas of interest are endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP and chronic liver diseases.

Prior to his association with the Cosmos Clinic, Dr. Thakur was attached to the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences in Indore, where he was initially designated as Associate Professor, followed by Assistant Professor and subsequently Professor, all in the Gastroenterology specialisation. He was also associated with the GK Digestive Diseases and Endoscopy Centre, and in addition, did a short stint at the Bahrain Specialist Hospital as Specialist Gastroenterologist.

Dr. Bhagwan Thakur has been involved in training of medical students of internal medicine and has delivered many lectures on various gastroenterological topics for general practitioners and physicians. Further, he has been extensively involved in research projects and clinical trials, and has contributed several articles and papers to peer-reviewed journals. Some of his papers have also been presented at conferences connected to his area of expertise, which Dr. Thakur attends regularly to keep himself abreast of the latest developments in his profession.

Upper GI Endoscopy

Upper GI Endoscopy
                           Upper GI endoscopy (EGD) procedure involves examination of internal organs using a thin endoscope, that has a light and a camera. It is passed through the mouth and down the throat to the esophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine. The endoscope also has a small biopsy instrument to remove tissue that is then checked under a microscope for abnormalities in Patho Lab.

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Flexible SigmoidoscopyFlexible sigmoidoscopy is the visual examination of the inside of the rectum and sigmoid colon, typically the last one or two feet, is examined using a special endoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube equipped with a tiny camera that allows the physician to view any affected regions.

EUS

EUSEndoscopic UltraSound procedure is used to examine esophageal and stomach linings and the walls of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract using a thin and flexible endoscope equipped with a tiny camera and ultrasound device to view any affected regions.

ERCP

ERCPEndoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography is a test that combines the use of a flexible, lighted endoscope with X-ray pictures to examine the tubes that drain the liver, gallbladder and pancreas. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth and gently moved down the throat into the esophagus, stomach and duodenum until it reaches the point where the ducts from the pancreatic ducts and gallbladder bile ducts drain into the duodenum.

Colonoscopy

ColonoscopyColonoscopy uses a lighted, flexible colonoscope to examine the inside of the entire large intestine (colon) and rectum. A camera at the tip of the colonoscope allows doctor to screen for polyps, cancer, and other signs of intestinal problems.
